Cohort 1 (2023) — CyberForge Accelerator
CyberForge's inaugural cohort. 8 cybersecurity startups spanning network security, encryption, identity, and application security. Highlights include FirewallAI's acquisition by Palo Alto Networks and ByteShield's $8M Series A. One company (CyberNova) shut down — a realistic outcome in the high-risk early-stage landscape.

FirewallAI
Next-Gen Firewall
AI-driven firewall policy recommendations and automated rule optimization. Acquired by Palo Alto Networks in 2025 — CyberForge's first major exit. The team's ML approach to firewall management attracted enterprise customers struggling with policy sprawl.
ByteShield
Data Encryption
Enterprise data encryption and key management platform. Raised $8M Series A — the largest fundraise from Cohort 1. Multi-cloud key management capabilities resonate with regulated industries.
Raised: $8M (Series A)
CyberNova
Threat Simulation
Automated breach and attack simulation platform. Shut down in late 2024 after struggling to differentiate from established BAS vendors. The team was strong but entered a crowded category with insufficient technical differentiation.
PacketWatch
Network Traffic Analysis
Behavioral anomaly detection for network traffic. Steady growth in manufacturing and logistics verticals where traditional EDR coverage has gaps. Strong retention metrics among existing customers.
Raised: $4M
TrustLayer
Identity Verification
Identity verification and access governance platform. Strong regulatory compliance positioning in banking and government sectors. Growing customer base in financial services.
Raised: $6M
KeyVault
Key Management
Hardware security module management and key lifecycle platform. Serving mid-market financial institutions and payment processors with compliance-driven key management needs.
Raised: $3M
ScanSecure
Application Security
Originally a static application security testing tool. Pivoted to focus on infrastructure-as-code scanning after finding stronger market pull from DevOps teams. Now competing in the IaC security space.
AlertEngine
SIEM Optimization
SIEM optimization platform that reduces alert noise by up to 70%. Integrates with Splunk, QRadar, and Sentinel. Strong word-of-mouth growth in the SOC analyst community.
Raised: $5M
Cohort 1 Lessons
Our inaugural cohort taught us several things about running a cybersecurity-focused accelerator. CyberNova's shutdown highlighted the importance of category differentiation — entering a crowded market without a clear technical moat is especially risky in cybersecurity, where enterprise buyers default to established vendors.
ScanSecure's successful pivot demonstrated the value of rapid market signal processing — the team recognized stronger pull from DevOps teams within weeks and redirected accordingly. FirewallAI's acquisition validated the accelerator model and gave our LP investors their first meaningful return.
